Between June 11th and 17th, 2023, representatives of the Audit Authority of Montenegro visited Hungary as part of a study visit to their colleagues at the Directorate-General for Audit of European Union Funds.
The study visit was organized to acquire new knowledge and share experiences with colleagues from EU member states who have the same responsibilities and job descriptions as the employees of the Audit Authority. Given that Hungary was also a recipient of pre-accession assistance funds before joining the EU, their extensive experience in utilizing both pre-accession and structural funds was extremely valuable for the future work of the Audit Authority.
The visit was made possible through the Twinning Light project “Improving the Legislative Framework and Strengthening the Administrative Capacities of the Audit Authority of Montenegro.” The focus was on the types of audits conducted by the Directorate-General for Audit of European Union Funds, procedures, and carefully selected case studies where certain irregularities were encountered. The Directorate’s representatives aimed to answer all questions posed by the Audit Authority’s representatives and resolve specific doubts, especially in areas related to the Audit Authority’s future engagements.
Employees of the Audit Authority also used this opportunity to present the work of the Audit Authority to their Hungarian colleagues and better acquaint them with the Institution’s work methods and competencies.
During the visit, the Directorate’s representatives facilitated a visit to the renovated social complex in the Rákosmente area, which was the result of a project funded by EU structural funds. This provided a comprehensive insight into one of the country’s most successful projects, which contributed to social inclusion and the employment of the most vulnerable.
The visit also included a tour of the Hungarian Parliament, the most famous symbol of Budapest and one of the most beautiful administrative buildings in Europe.
